So, we've had a look at the potential for modifications to the current Kindle in the last post (http://kindle4.sosblogs.com/The-first-blog-b1/Isn-t-the-Current-Kindle-Fine-As-It-Is-b1-p2.htm). But what does the technology news think Amazon will come up with next?
Well, quite a lot actually! And, its changing all the time!
- Back in January e-ink show-cased color displays being used by Hanvon and rumors began that a color Kindle would emerge.
- Then when Sony went all touch-screen, surely Amazon would follow suit?
- Mirasol displays perpetuated the color e-ink display gossip.
- By the summer though, all talk was of the Kindle 4 (http://www.handheld-ebook-reader.com/kindle-4.html) becoming a tablet instead of an e-ink based ebook reader at all!
- Then we heard that not one tablet, but two would be released.
- In September this year, the full potentially honest account came from Tech-Crunch (http://techcrunch.com/) when an author said he'd actually been allowed to use the prototype Amazon Kindle Tablet at HQ. This, he said would be a seven inch Android tablet with the power to stream moveis, view books, play music and browse the web effortlessly. He reckons we'll see this tablet for sale by the end of November. Only if sales are good will a ten inch potential iPad killer be released, and that won't happen until 2012 sometime.
- There is still talk that both Apple and Amazon are developing displays that can switch between e-ink and LCD. When that occurs we'll see something definitely worth upgrading too. After all a traditional tablet is no good on the beach and won't replace ebook readers, but will only supplement it. However a hybrid product could spell the end of eReaders for good.
It is certainly an exciting time for tech fans. And I for one am looking forward to the next few years of technological innovation and improvement.
